Passive Water Intake Screens

E&I passive screens contain an internal flow modifier, which distributes the flow evenly along the length of the screen. This enables the use of a smaller screen, since it provides maximum efficiency across the entire screen, rather than just a small portion of it. Also, the even flow prevents any portion of the screen from having higher velocities which might trap small fish, ensuring compliance with the EPA's 316b regulations for protection of aquatic life.

E&I passive screens are designed with an air burst cleaning system which removes debris from the screen, and therefore does not create a waste product to be handled by the plant. Other than periodic cleaning, routine maintenance requirements are minimal.

Type 304 stainless steel is standard for the majority of freshwater applications. In applications where Zebra Mussels are a concern, we offer Copper-Nickel alloy. For very aggressive applications such as seawater, Type 316L stainless steel is available. For all materials, we employ a flanged outlet to connect to the owner’s water intake piping.
